Don’t Quit in the Rut: “What’s Worth Fighting For?” I PART 3
This week, we ask: “What’s actually worth fighting for?”
Not everything deserves your time, energy, or attention. But some things? They’re worth pressing through the hard moments for. In this episode, we explore how to rethink the ruts you’re in—not always as a sign to quit, but sometimes as a sign to adjust your posture.
We’ll unpack the idea that:
“If you can’t change the path, change your posture.”
Your posture—your mindset, your presence, your approach—can change how you experience difficulty and help you keep moving when quitting feels easier
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
- Why not every rut means it’s time to quit
- How adjusting your posture can change your experience
- The power of remembering your ‘why’ when you feel stuck
- Why breakthroughs are built in boring, repetitive places
- How to stack small wins that lead to real progress
Reflection Questions:
- What is something you’re still passionate about—even if it’s hard right now?
- What’s one small thing you can do this week to move forward?
- Who can you ask for help, feedback, or encouragement?
Weekly Challenge:
- Write down your “why.”
- Put it somewhere visible—your desk, mirror, or phone lock screen.
- Let it remind you what’s worth fighting for, especially when your posture needs lifting.
Next Week – Final Episode: “Walking Out of the Rut”
We’ll wrap up the series with practical steps to build momentum and stay out of the ruts you’ve outgrown. You won’t want to miss it.
Remember:
You may not control the path, but you always control your posture.
Walk tall. Lean in. Keep going.

Speaker A:And so you know what?
Speaker A:Silence is good.
Speaker A:Silence is a good thing.
Speaker A:A lot of people think, well, Tim just, he just wants to chat or whatever.
Speaker A:No, you'd be surprised.
Speaker A:I like to be quiet to the point that there are people who go, are you okay?
Speaker A:Because when I think, when I'm quiet, they think that something is wrong.
Speaker A:Because most of the time I'm talking about something that's, that's my job.
Speaker A:Again, that's what I do.
Speaker A:However, I try to make silence my job.

Speaker A:So, no, I don't do that.
Speaker A:I just try to add value to your life.
Speaker A:So as I'm setting up and I'm getting my notes and making sure everything's in order because I have so much I could say about this, I'm actually putting together a whole series around this that I'm going to be doing talks around and I'm excited about and because I see a lot of companies, I see individuals and companies leaders and teams get into ruts and I don't want them to in a rut.
Speaker A:And so, and there's people that are listening.
Speaker A:It's so funny.
Speaker A:I do a podcast.
Speaker A:I know the people that are listening and next thing you know, they're.
Speaker A:They're creating something from it.
Speaker A:So you're welcome as I'm helping you have your next product to be able to sell.
Speaker A:So here's what I want to do.
Speaker A:I'm going to talk to you about week three, don't quit, and the rut.
Speaker A:What's worth fighting for.
Speaker A:So that's what we're going to get into.
Speaker A:And so just so welcome back to this.
Speaker A:I mean, I just want everyone to know everyone goes into ruts.
Speaker A:I've coached pro athletes and I've coached top level CEOs.
Speaker A:I've coached top executives that run states.
Speaker A:I've coached, I mean, so many different people that do so many different jobs, so many different things.
Speaker A:And I can just tell you this, no.
Speaker A:1, there's no inoculation toward a rut.
Speaker A:And you don't just run into a rut, you drift there.
Speaker A:So if you listen to the episodes prior to this one, you'll be able to see some of that content that I talk about, that how you get into a rut.
Speaker A:And I talked about dips last week.
Speaker A:So let me just go ahead and start there.
Speaker A:So over the past two weeks, we've identified what ruts look like.
Speaker A:I talked about five common ruts.
Speaker A:We explored the dip and the lull that was last week.
Speaker A:Those frustrating in between places where it's easy to feel stuck.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:I think we've all been there before, but today we're going to turn a big corner and we're gonna do that by asking a question.
Speaker A:What's worth fighting for?
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So when you're in a rut, you need to ask yourself this really big question, what's worth fighting?
Speaker A:Because not every struggle deserves your time and your energy.
Speaker A:And I think that's a really big thing to just say up front.
Speaker A:You know, it's kind of like I was on a coaching call earlier today with a client, and one of the things that I, I told them was when it comes to bringing in new team members and stuff like that is you've got to stop just putting warm bodies in cold places.
Speaker A:You got to just stop hiring to fill.
Speaker A:You have to start thinking, really determine what it is that you're trying to bring into your organization.
Speaker A:So I, I said, kind of use what I do.
Speaker A:I want this.
Speaker A:Is this the right person for what we're trying to do?
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Is this what our team needs?
Speaker A:So those are the questions you ask.
Speaker A:Not can I get them?
Speaker A:Can I get that person?
Speaker A:Can I get any person?
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:So it's kind of like business.
Speaker A:I try to work with the people I want to work with, not just get the business that I can get.
Speaker A:And so I do have that opportunity and the luxury to do that.
Speaker A:I get to choose who I work with, just like they get to choose if they work with me or not, but I get to pick that I'm not forced into going and running after trying to grab anything that I can get.
Speaker A:And so I started building my business like that years back to where instead of me just trying to get the business I could get, I started saying, what kind of business do I want?
Speaker A:Do I want this?
Speaker A:That's a great question.
Speaker A:Oh, and I forgot to mention, if you do follow me on Instagram, go to my bio, you can follow my newsletter.
Speaker A:You can get, click on, click on the link in there, in the link and you will find the newsletter and all the other ways that you can connect with me.
Speaker A:And also, if you're looking, looking to grow in a community, I welcome you to check out the uphill community.
Speaker A:And that's where I spend time weekly with a group of people that I'm taking through that are looking for clarity.
Speaker A:They're raising their standards and they are embracing their call to inform more.
Speaker A:And I'm helping them with ways to do that.
Speaker A:And as a community, we're helping one another go to the next level.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:And if you want to go straight to the URL, you can do that as well.
Speaker A:It's the Uphill dot community.
Speaker A:That's it.
Speaker A:T H E U P h I l l.community okay, so back to this topic about this rut and about where, where we are, what's worth fighting for because everything is not worth your time and your energy.
Speaker A:But some things, come on, they're absolutely worth you staying in the fight for, even when it's tough.
Speaker A:So that's what we're going to get into.
Speaker A:All right, so not every rut means you should quit, right?
Speaker A:Some ruts mean, yeah, you need to stop this, but some, you just, you don't need to quit.
Speaker A:So here's.
Speaker A:Here's what I want to do.
Speaker A:I want to help you here.
Speaker A:Here's something important for you to realize.
Speaker A:Okay, Again.
Speaker A:I'm going to say it again.
Speaker A:Just because you hit a rut, okay, Remember, you don't just run into it.
Speaker A:You drift there.
Speaker A:That is not your signal.
Speaker A:Please, please, please, please.
Speaker A:I must emphatically implore you to not just say it's a signal to quit.
Speaker A:Some ruts are just a nudge for you to move on.
Speaker A:It's a wake up.
Speaker A:It's just that warning light, check engine light, oil light, tire pressure gauge.
Speaker A:But some are actually an invitation.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Some ruts are.
Speaker A:They're a nudge for you to.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:You know, to say, hey, let's look at some stuff.
Speaker A:Then you've got some ruts that are just like, you know, you need to get out of this.
Speaker A:You need to just stop.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:You need to, like, let go, like you're done, pull the plug.
Speaker A:Okay, I get it.
Speaker A:But that's what we're.
Speaker A:We're not going to talk about that today.
Speaker A:What we're going to do is we.
Speaker A:I want to talk to you about the invitation in the rut, that gentle nudge, that little light that comes on to move on, to move on, move forward with this.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And I don't want that to be meaning move on.
Speaker A:When I said that earlier, I could see.
Speaker A:I could see how that could be a little confusing.
Speaker A:I'm not talking about quitting.
Speaker A:I'm talking about just moving on.
Speaker A:Move on with this a little bit.
Speaker A:Here's your little cue.
Speaker A:This is your sign here.
Speaker A:This is an invitation for you to do it differently.
Speaker A:It's your invitation, like I talked about last week, to dig differently.
Speaker A:To dig just a little bit further over.
Speaker A:To not quit, but keep digging.
Speaker A:Not necessarily to work harder.
Speaker A:I'm not saying that as well, but maybe you're going to work a little smarter.
Speaker A:You're going to take more evidence.
Speaker A:Not just compelling evidence, but conclusive evidence.
Speaker A:And then you're going to learn to go deeper with it.
Speaker A:All right?
Speaker A:That's what we're going to do.
Speaker A:Sometimes we're not stuck because we're doing the wrong thing.
Speaker A:That's an important thing for us to always remember.
Speaker A:We're stuck because we've been maybe doing the right thing, but we've been doing it the same way for too long.
Speaker A:So it's like an exercise.
Speaker A:You've been doing the same exercise.
Speaker A:It's right.
Speaker A:You're maintaining.
Speaker A:It's great.
Speaker A:But maybe your goals have.
Speaker A:Have.
Speaker A:Your goals can't be realized to the next level because you haven't changed the thing that you're doing.
Speaker A:So you're able to maintain something, but you're not seeing that bump.
Speaker A:You're not going.
Speaker A:So you begin to think that what my exercise routine is, I just need to quit altogether because this is not working.
Speaker A:It's plateaued.
Speaker A:Well, it's not that you just.
Speaker A:Maybe you're doing the right thing, but you're doing it the same way for too long.
Speaker A:And that's where the truth is going to hit us.
Speaker A:That's where the truth actually lands.
Speaker A:All right, and so what do I mean by that?
Speaker A:It's, it's.
Speaker A:It's more of if you can change.
Speaker A:And here's a quote.
Speaker A:If you can't change your path, you can change your posture.
Speaker A:All right, so that's kind of big.
Speaker A:It's a.
Speaker A:It's a big statement.
Speaker A:And what I want to do is I'm going to dig into this a little bit.
Speaker A:I'm going to give you an explanation.
Speaker A:How about that?
Speaker A:Of a.
Speaker A:Of just a simple breakdown.
Speaker A:So if this was like an.
Speaker A:Like what it equals.
Speaker A:So we'll talk about if you can't change the path, you could change your posture.
Speaker A:So let's say path.
Speaker A:Path equals are you ready?
Speaker A:Your situation or your circumstances.
Speaker A:That's what path is.
Speaker A:So some things in life we can't change immediately.
Speaker A:It could be a tough job, it could be a hard season, it could even be ready, a slow process.
Speaker A:But the posture, the posture, though, in this change your posture is you could change your attitude, you could change your response, you could change your mindset.
Speaker A:So let's say it this way.
Speaker A:If you can't change the situation or the circumstances, change your attitude response or your mindset, because even when you can't change the situation, you can change how you carry yourself through it.
Speaker A:So again, this quote.
Speaker A:If you can't change the path, change your posture.
Speaker A:This is an invitation.
Speaker A:It invites you to take your power back.
Speaker A:And you may not have control of the path, but you completely have control over your own posture.
Speaker A:You may not be able to Instantly change the situation in your job.
Speaker A:You know, the hard job or the waiting season or the tough relationship, but you can absolutely change how you are going to actually walk through it.
Speaker A:And why.
Speaker A:Why is this so important?
Speaker A:Because to me, it's not the path so much.
Speaker A:It's the posture.
Speaker A:To me, posture is everything, because I can't always control a path, but I can do my posture.
Speaker A:So posture, it's how I carry myself.
Speaker A:Posture, it's how I choose to show up even when things are not perfect.
Speaker A:And here's the thing.
Speaker A:When your posture is not right, you can slump down in defeat, or you can lift up your head, you can steady your heart.
Speaker A:You can keep moving forward with purpose.
Speaker A:So posture can turn the rut that you're in into the Runway that you need to go to that next level.
Speaker A:But one of the things that I want to do is I want to get you to.
Speaker A:I want to kind of give you some reflective thinking and kind of inspire you a little bit here about when you're in.
Speaker A:When you're in a rut and things are cloudy, right, it just seems doom and gloom, maybe overcast.
Speaker A:It just doesn't feel right.
Speaker A:Even a sunny day feels just cloudy and uninspiring, and you can't see the finish line, the thing that you're trying to do, and you lose sight because of that, of why you actually started.
Speaker A:So let's slow down for a second, and let's go back to the beginning.
Speaker A:And that's what I tend to do when I'm in the rut.
Speaker A:I say, let's slow down.
Speaker A:Let's go back to the beginning.
Speaker A:I changed my posture.
Speaker A:I want to go back to the beginning, but I don't want to just change my posture.
Speaker A:I'm going to need some fuel.
Speaker A:I'm going to need to get myself moving again.
Speaker A:So what I do is I go back and I remind myself of a couple of things.
Speaker A:Several things here.
Speaker A:Why did I start this journey?
Speaker A:That's a question I ask.
Speaker A:Then another question or a couple here.
Speaker A:What was the spark, the passion, the fire, the burden?
Speaker A:What did I begin it for?
Speaker A:And then what made this worth fighting for?
Speaker A:That's like a big thing, because sometimes you don't need to change your mission.
Speaker A:Instead, what you need to do is remember your motivation.
Speaker A:So I'm trying to get you, just like I have to do for myself, is I want you to go back and say, stop messing with the mission.
Speaker A:You know, maybe what's going on, I'm in a rut.
Speaker A:I'm not off Course, I'm just in a rut, right?
Speaker A:I'm in a dip.
Speaker A:I'm in a lull.
Speaker A:What does this mean?
Speaker A:There's my light going off.
Speaker A:It doesn't mean I need to quit.
Speaker A:It means I need to maybe.
Speaker A:Look, I can't change the path, the circumstance or the situation.
Speaker A:But what I can do is change.
Speaker A:Change my posture, my attitude, my mindset.
Speaker A:I don't have to change my mission, but I need to remember my motivation.
Speaker A:So when you forget your why, what's going to end up happening is you're going to lose your way.
Speaker A:That's when you're going to feel that rut really become overwhelming.
Speaker A:Because not only do you feel like you're in a rut, but then you're going to truly get lost and be in a rut.
Speaker A:Don't want to do that.
Speaker A:So when you rediscover your why and you do that, you reflect on those questions, you know that.
Speaker A:That I laid out there for you.
Speaker A:You know?
Speaker A:You know what?
Speaker A:What?
Speaker A:You know what?
Speaker A:Why did I start my journey?
Speaker A:And what was the spark or the fire or the passion and the burning that I had?
Speaker A:Or the burden.
Speaker A:The burden with it and then.
Speaker A:And what was worth fighting for?
Speaker A:So when I do that and rediscover my why, that actually lifts my posture.
Speaker A:So in the community that I'm in, I created this whole entire framework of how to create lift for your life.
Speaker A:And so I'm always saying to people, how are you looking for ways to lift your life?
Speaker A:How are you getting elevation?
Speaker A:How are you elevating up and above?
Speaker A:And what are the things that you need in order to do that?
Speaker A:And I'm not going to give you all that here, right?
Speaker A:You want to know more about that?
Speaker A:Go look at the community, theuphill community.
Speaker A:But what I do is I try to help people with that.
Speaker A:So here's a way that this is one of the things I'm giving.
Speaker A:One of the ways that you can lift your posture, lift your life, is by remembering your why.
Speaker A:It's like oxygen, right?
Speaker A:When you have tired lungs, it reminds you that this matters.
Speaker A:And I'm not done.
Speaker A:That's what you want to do, is this matters.
Speaker A:I'm not done.
Speaker A:Get yourself back there.
Speaker A:So today, don't just look at how hard it feels.
Speaker A:I want you to look at how important it actually is, the thing that you're doing, not how hard it is and how hard it feels.
Speaker A:Remember, because we want to do hard best, and we choose hard best over easy.
Speaker A:Good.
Speaker A:We choose the uphill Way over all other ways.
Speaker A:If it's worth having, it's uphill.
Speaker A:You can't go uphill with downhill habits.
Speaker A:So what I want to do is when I.
Speaker A:It's not about how hard it feels, but it's how important it is.
Speaker A:So when it's hard, I want you to keep moving.
Speaker A:I want to be real with you.
Speaker A:Breakthroughs.
Speaker A:Are you ready?
Speaker A:Your breakthrough, my breakthrough.
Speaker A:All breakthroughs are born in boring places.
Speaker A:Because think about it.
Speaker A: Nobody celebrates the: Speaker A:No one celebrates that.
Speaker A:Nobody writes songs about showing up when nobody notices.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Nobody writes songs about that.
Speaker A:Nobody writes about all the things you know about, the things that nobody ever sees.
Speaker A:Nobody ever knows, nobody ever recognizes.
Speaker A:People don't do that unless it's just you're writing a sad song about disappointing life.
Speaker A:But that's just not the thing that people do.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But that's where resilience is built.
Speaker A: Resilience is built in the: Speaker A:Resilience is built when nobody notices.
Speaker A:Resilience is built when nobody saw it.
Speaker A:That's where you're building things when you're.
Speaker A:If you were a boxer, heavyweight fighters would talk about that.
Speaker A:People, all your training, everything shows up under the lights in Madison Square Garden.
Speaker A:When you're in the ring with another contender and you are boxing and you have 12 rounds or 15 rounds back in the day, but 12 rounds and you're out there.
Speaker A:All your training, everything you've worked on, everything you've been doing, your diet, your reps, everything shows up there.
Speaker A:No one noticed it while you were doing it.
Speaker A:But everybody's going to see it when you're out there.
Speaker A:But the resilience you need to get in the ring is going to be built through all those repet repetitions that nobody is seeing.
Speaker A:Nobody is seeing you run the race and do the road work.
Speaker A:Zero people.
Speaker A:But you know, this is where resilience is built.
Speaker A:This is where we go deep.
Speaker A:This is where we go deep so we can plant the seeds deep.
Speaker A:We go deep, plant seeds deep so we can get deep roots.
Speaker A:That's the point.
Speaker A:So if you're tired today, that doesn't mean you're weak.
Speaker A:It doesn't mean that you're failing.
Speaker A:If you're tired today, it means you're human.
Speaker A:So the question is not, am I tired?
Speaker A:The real question I want to put out there for you is, is this still worth it?
Speaker A:And if the answer, even a tiny whisper of it, a sliver, is yes, then it's time to shift your posture.
Speaker A:If you have shoes on, you tighten up your laces and you keep walking.
Speaker A:If it's a bike, you keep pedaling.
Speaker A:Whatever it is, you keep going.
Speaker A:If you're a writer, you keep riding.
Speaker A:If you're.
Speaker A:If you're in chemistry and you're a scientist, keep doing your science.
Speaker A:If you are coding person, keep coding.
Speaker A:If you're trying to make fragrances, keep mixing your fragrances.
Speaker A:If you're trying to find the perfect coffee bean, keep doing the planting.
Speaker A:This is what it's all about.
Speaker A:You keep going.
Speaker A:If you're J.K.
Speaker A:rowling, you keep writing.
Speaker A:This is what it is.
Speaker A:That's how she ended up where she is.
Speaker A:And no, you may not have a book that's going to be world renowned, but there is something that you're going to do that's world renowned to you.
Speaker A:Just you accomplishing it can make all the difference.
Speaker A:And you never know who you're impacting with.
Speaker A:The one thing that you do that you think is insignificant.
Speaker A:That's why it's very important for you to realize you can't change the path, but you can change your posture.
Speaker A:And you don't have to sprint.
Speaker A:You just have to keep moving.
Speaker A:So here's one of the best ways you can change your posture when you're stuck.
Speaker A:I want you to start stacking little victories.
Speaker A:Progress doesn't always mean it's loud, it's boisterous, and there's a big roar with it.
Speaker A:Sometimes.
Speaker A:Most progress that happens in life, 1% incremental change, it comes through a whisper.
Speaker A:It's through little things.
Speaker A:You don't need a massive breakthrough tomorrow.
Speaker A:What you need is one small victory today.
Speaker A:One small victory.
Speaker A:So what does that mean?
Speaker A:Here's what I want you to do.
Speaker A:I want you to finish your workout.
Speaker A:You know what that means?
Speaker A:I want you to send that very difficult email you've been needing to send.
Speaker A:You know what I want you to do?
Speaker A:I want you to make that very hard phone call that you know you need to do.
Speaker A:You know what I want you to do?
Speaker A:I want you to pray.
Speaker A:I want you to reflect.
Speaker A:I want you to rest.
Speaker A:But you know what else I want you to do?
Speaker A:I want you to show up.
Speaker A:Even if it's messy.
Speaker A:Small.
Speaker A:Listen, even when even small wins, right?
Speaker A:Even a small win that you stack up is going to build the road out of your rut.
Speaker A:Think about that.
Speaker A:Stacking small wins gets you out of a rut.
Speaker A:Small wins make a rut into your future road.
Speaker A:Because they stack up, they're stackable.
Speaker A:And that road, it leads you forward, one faithful step at a time.
Speaker A:So this week, I want you to think about a few things.
Speaker A:I want you to reflect on these questions.
Speaker A:First one is what are.
Speaker A:What is something you're still passionate about even if it's hard right now?
Speaker A:What is it?
Speaker A:Second question is, what's one small thing you can do this week to move forward?
Speaker A:And then the third is, who could you ask for help, feedback or an encouragement?
Speaker A:That's it.
Speaker A:What's something you're still passionate about even if it's hard right now?
Speaker A:What's one small thing you can do this week to move forward and who could you ask for help or feedback or encouragement from?
Speaker A:Write them down.
Speaker A:Talk about them with someone you trust, or just sit down with them quietly today and reflect on them.
Speaker A:So when you've done that, it's going to help you to write your why down.
Speaker A:Make it small, Put it on a piece of paper, put it on your mirror, write it on your desk, put it on your lock screen, on your phone.
Speaker A:Let it speak to you.
Speaker A:In days when you feel heavy and your posture needs to be lifted up, put your why down.
Speaker A:Answer those questions.
Speaker A:I want you to be focused for your next step.
Speaker A:All right, so next week we're going to be wrapping up this series with something practical and powerful.
Speaker A:And that's basically we're going to talk about walking out of the rut.
Speaker A:We're going to talk about how to build real, lasting momentum and how to stay out of the places that you've been stuck in before and not to go back to them because you're not going to want to miss out.
Speaker A:So what I want you to do is I want you to keep walking tall.
Speaker A:I want you to lean in.
Speaker A:I want you to remember that if you can't change the path, the circumstance or the situation, you can change your attitude, your mindset, your posture.
Speaker A:So until next time.
Speaker A:Time, we'll talk soon.
